GMO Detection

A genetically modified organism (GMO) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. Testing for GMO has become a necessity in light of legislation imposed in a number of countries. The established labeling laws for approved bioengineered crops prohibit the import of unapproved varieties. iLife Discoveries has always strive to give the best possible technology at most competitive prices. We have therefore chosen DNA based technology over ELISA, which depends on assaying the protein coded by a DNA Sequence. QPCR based methods are more sensitive, accurate, and robust and are generally considered to be the preferred method for detecting "any GMO." A major advantage of QPCR based method of detection is that you can assay for "any GMO" using appropriate PCR primers to quantify (%) GMO in non-GMO samples.

The test can be based on screening elements (like p35S, tNos, pat, or bar) or event-specific markers for the official GMOs. Our services for GMO detection include primer designing, primer optimization, optimization of RT based assay and screening and/or quantitation of GMO.
